Sing for LA, Jan 2025
"I think music, out of all that we can do, at least artistically,
is the great indicator that something else is going on, something unexplained, because it allows us to experience genuine moments of transcendence.”
~ Nick Cave
Dear Friends,
A few nights ago, my son Chris was just falling asleep when the phone rang and it was a friend from Los Angeles. A friend whose house (and houseful of belongings) was destroyed in the Palisades fire last week. They talked for a long time.
That conversation sparked the idea for the show this Sunday to benefit those in LA who have lost so much.
The effects of natural disasters appear to be more and more devastating - - AND are coming closer and closer to home. (The Eaton fire is 20 minutes from Chris' house in LA and is still not contained). And of course, no one is immune to tragedy, a dark night of the soul experience, no whatever form it takes. But each time something huge like this lands in our life, at some point we will have a choice how to respond. Do we stay in grief and fear and contract into a smaller life, a smaller version of ourselves? Or do we commit to healing from the loss and trauma, and expand into a more compassionate, more luminous expression of the Soul that we are?
Perhaps, we do need to close down for a while, and then find a safe place to let the feelings flow. We seek out a friend nearby or across the country. We call the one who knows how to really listen.

Sunday's benefit starts at 7:30 pm and Derek Gores has once again generously offered to host us at his Gallery. Any chance I have to hear Chris sing is wonderful but this time, given the circumstances, I know it will be even more moving and inspiring. Hope you can come!
With love,
Elizabeth
